eBay removes model 8016 steam iron after fire-risk warning

A 2200W vertical steam iron sold through eBay has been flagged as a high fire risk by the Office for Product Safety and Standards. Its safety report, published on 4 November 2026, says the marketplace removed the listing. This is a product safety warning; the notice does not describe a product recall.

How to identify the iron

The affected iron is model 8016, associated with eBay listing 176632030530. OPSS describes a blue handheld appliance with a pointed soleplate and translucent and black or grey plastic housing. These identifiers are more specific than the wattage alone.

What the regulator found

OPSS found that the plug lacked a fuse and that its pins were below the minimum dimensions required by BS 1363. The regulator says a fuse is needed for protection under fault conditions; without it, the plug could overheat or explode. It also found shortcomings in warnings and markings and said the product failed to meet the relevant UK electrical equipment and plug safety regulations.

What owners should do

The official notice tells consumers to stop using the affected product immediately and contact the retailer or supplier for a replacement or refund. Check the model and listing details against the original OPSS report, notification 2610-0199.
